Greetings from Shanghai – Theater Performance
On-Stage Comedy Written by Horst Helfrich
Performed by The Kulisse Studio-Bühne Luenen e.V. in Luenen, Germany of which I am an active member. I not only perform on stage in order to continuously work on the ‘actor’ part of my being a ‘voice actor’, but also to find out more about where the real magic is made – behind the scenes – in which I am learning the tricks of the trade of a theater make-up artist.
About the Play
Set in the 1970’s in 4 Acts
Ferdinand Klittwisch, Senior, retired ship captain, is a victim of the treacherous sailor’s disease that condemns him to a life sitting in a chair. Therefore, he is dependent on the loving care of his family. However, they accuse him of nothing but ingratitude and harassment. In addition, the dear relatives are not ready to celebrate his 70th birthday as he desires or deserves. It’s no wonder that he dreams about Shanghai and longs for the love of a woman – admittedly, a young and good-looking woman.
While Ferdinand is simultaneously harassing his own family to be best of his ability, in walks a pretty young blond wearing a cute little skirt who claims to be the person he is looking for. However, she believes it is Ferdinand Klittwisch Junior, not Senor, who wants to take her hand in marriage. The entire family is shocked, especially Klittwisch Junior’s wife!
Without any more hesitation, Klittwisch Senior straightens out the situation real quick which in turn brings about another surprise that upsets the family. And who is this other woman who would like to tie the knot with Klittwisch Senior before the day is done?
I play Melissa Saffran, Klittwisch Senior’s niece (top row, 4th from left)

About the Theater Group
Die Kulisse Studio-Bühne Lünen e.V. has been in existence since 1949 in Luenen, Germany and over the years developed a very large following. Each year, a new play is performed at the Heinz Hilpert Theater. In addition to the actors who have been loyal members of the Kulisse family for decades, new faces are always welcome. All players are amateurs, however, there are many opposing opinions about the word ‘amateur’.
Together with our audience, we embark on a journey through time and transport you into the magical world of theater.
Oh, just so that you know, the play is in German! 🙂
Sending the very best,
